![]() Taking a motor apart is a bit more of a challenge, of course. Using Warmflow’s unique patented stainless steel heat exchanger alongside the latest Riello burner. Putting a couple drops of oil in the 'oil' hole next to the motor spindle (if there is one) may help a bit, but it may not even make it down to the lower bearing and then will dilute whatever black sludge has built-up in the bearings. The Warmflow Agentis internal combination oil boiler UK & Ireland’s only AAA rated oil boiler and is the most efficient oil boilers in the market saving homeowners up to 5ltrs of fuel per week. ![]() Otherwise I've had perfectly fine results using a light oil. Some brands, like Technics, use a specific oil for the main spindle. Watch out for a ball bearing in the bottom of the well if one is used. ![]() With a semi-automatic or automatic deck you'll usually have to disassemble some of the gearing to get to the spindle and most have a set-screw in the side of the bearing well that must be removed in order to pull the spindle from the well. Most cases you'll have to take the bottom off the turntable to access the spindle bearing. In extreme cases, I've see the platter spindle seized solid. ![]() You'll see what I mean when you go to clean out the black gunk accumulated in the bearing well. Beyond the motor spindle, in an older turntable the turntable platter spindle should be disassembled, cleaned and re-oiled.
